Je viens de relire ce roman dont j'aime beaucoup la structure en documents et en nouvelles ui forment un tout soit l'histoire d'une planète aride faite de sable de soleil et de vent où deux peuples sont incapables de coexister Le monstre n'y est pas toujours celui u'on pense même s'il y est parfois celui u'on suppose Un roman pour ceux ui n'ont plus envie d'avoir froid et ui n'ont pas peur d'une science fiction exposant les corps les divergences les tabous et les Autres comme miroirs de ce ue nous sommes Ce serait bien si Goodreads proposait un bouton « Currently rereading » ;

Review â eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF × Sylvie Bérard

S hostile to humans the heat rarity of edible food and scarcity of water Struggling to survive on their own a confrontation with the planets natural inhabitants seems inevitableCulture shock has sunk in violence and horror reign and not even the most devoted pacifists can prevent the worst from happenin. This is a science fiction novel about a group of human colonizers whose disabled ship lands on a hot Mars like planet covered in sand The planet is already inhabited by an advanced reptilian species known as darztls After some failed attempts to interact the two groups maintain a tense distance from each other in a sort of Cold War situation The darztls want the humans to leave the planet and the humans have every intention of staying Needless to say tensions mount and violence occurs The story is told through the perspective of various human and darztl characters Many of them have difficulties fitting in to their respective societies and exist on the borders of both human and darztl civilization Bérard is clearly thinking critically about numerous problems that plague our planet and our history as humans slavery war colonization environmental degradation as well as sex and gender discrimination The novel works interestingly to challenge the stability of the categories of male and female and I think this is what is most successful about it At times the book's examination of slavery among other topics was a bit too apparent Science fiction can and should move beyond the obvious That's why I liked Bérard's treatment of gender and sexuality which was less expected and complex
