Rything Eli usually avoids but his boisterous enthusiasm is infectious and his band needs a fiddle playerWhen Eli agrees to fill in for a weekend he awakens a part of himself he thought long gone With Peter’s help he shakes off the dust that has se. A Joyfully Jay review 3 starsJigs and Reels was an easy book to read but it lacked a lot of substance and depth and ultimately will not be a memorable book for me It’s basically a wish fulfillment story where the guy with the boring office job and safe life gets to meet a seemingly dynamic guy and join him for the promise of an exciting life on the road Both Eli and Peter were okay guys to read about but both of their characters lacked depth The story is told from Eli’s POV and we see him working in an office still living with his parents and playing it safe We learn that he used to be in a band in college and that something happened that included an ex but we are never told anything further which then brings the uestion of why it was brought up to begin withWe don’t learn any back story on Peter We learn he plays the flute has stage presence and is someone that Eli cannot take his eyes off of The story takes place in a weekend where Eli reconnects with his music and there were references to specific Irish songs that may have impact for those familiar with the music The book also shows Eli and Peter connecting but the time they spent together wasn’t enough for me to believe in a forever true love story for the pair Eli spends a lot of time in his head and there was substantial inner narrative that got long winded after a while for me and the story was mostly predicableThere wasn’t that spark here that would have me telling everyone to read this book and there was a distinct lack of depth to most areas of the story But the characters were enjoyable overall and it was a uick light read about a guy taking a new path in lifeRead Michelle's review in its entirety here

Jigs and ReelsTtled on his soul and remembers how to have funBut when the band asks him to join them permanently is Eli’s newborn sense of adventure and insane crush on a man he barely knows enough to make him leave the safety of a life he’s clung to for years. Elijah has a very safe rut of a life He works in a cubicle because his parents expect it He plays violin and loves music but it is a hobby since it isn’t stable enough to be a living according to his parents When his best friend Katie sets him up to play with a band at the Renaissance Faire he agrees but can only see it being a nightmare Imagine his surprise when he loves it and begins to learn to live again The singer Peter has a lot to do with it Peter is a free spirit dressing as a fairy for the Renaissance Faire and fully embracing the joy he finds in life He wants Elijah right now Elijah had a bad experience with a boyfriend dumping him and causing the falling apart of their band when he did so so he’s leery But he’s “the cute guy in a kilt” Peter said “You’re like fifty percent of the reason women come to ren fairs” There were times Elijah seems to really need some social lessons He is very stiff on stage and works on that Luckily he has Katie to keep him grounded even though his parents don’t like her The only thing that brought down my rating some and diminished my enjoyment a little was the very abrupt change of heart and then the book ended Since the whole thing really happens over the course of a weekend it was a very uick connection and I needed a little before I could fully embrace it This is an easy uick read with some pretty descriptions of the music
