READER Someone Else's Summer

Someone Else's SummerAnna's always idolized her older sister Storm So when Storm dies in a tragic car accident on the night of her high school graduation Anna is completely lost and her family is torn apart That I received a copy of this book for free through a Goodreads giveawayTo be honest I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this book It's a YA contemporary and considering the premise I figured it would be a tearjerker I was wrong There are some sad moments but nothing like what I was expectingThe main character Anna was kind of being an angry bratty drama ueen at first Anger and sadness are to be expected with a death but I feel like her anger was misdirected for the wrong reasons and at the wrong times She's only 17 though so we'll give her a pass She did become tolerable as the book went along Cameron I loved from the start Cameron was Storm's best friend and I absolutely adored him throughout the book As far as secondary characters go her parents going MIA was not ok Who abandons their child because another child dies? Everyone is hurting and I can not even fathom their grief but to let your child grieve alone because you can't be bothered? Fuck off Her dad redeemed himself some a little later in the book so there's that Anna's aunt gave me mixed feelings I'm glad someone was there for her but I also feel like maybe she was part of the reason Anna was so bratty in the first place Piper Anna's best friend was slightly annoying to me but I liked the ex boyfriend Jovani enoughThe book is split into thirds June July and August but I'm going to split this book into fifths for discussion purposes The first fifth is a little wonky You've got the death of the sister Storm which starts the book the funeral character development and the aftermath of their loss The second third and fourth fifths are amazing and inspirational This is where all the adventure is I want to have an experience like this at some point in my life Reading this book has either given me a new sense of adventure or I'm about to have a mid life crisis I guess we'll find out soon enough Finally the last fifth had me angry at Anna for being such a hypocrite Once she stopped being a brat the ending was nice though We get our closure and a happy endingThis book is rated 13 but I would say it should be 15 or 16 due to underage drinking and sex I would recommend this book to anyone who likes YA contemporary likes adventure is looking for courage to overcome their fears and people who enjoy reading about young love and romance
