characters Times Tempest (The Chronicles of Xannia, #1) ↠ eBook, PDF or Kindle ePUB Ø When time is your enemy and the truth will only get you killed who’s left to trust as the world threatens to crumble around youEmbarking as a guide into the death zones that are the Deserts Taya leads a group Attempts to keep the prophet and his followers alive this journey forces her to grapple with the circumstances of her past which have aligned to hurdle her into her darkest memories; making choices she never wanted to consider; learning truths she was never meant to kno. For the full review visit I LovedSettingThe setting here for the vast majority of the book anyway is essentially this enormous unending desert As the main crew of truth seekers make their way into said desert in an attempt to discover the existence or non existence of historical tablets that hold the key to a hidden history of Xannia they travel through a variety of different Deserts with slight shifts in environment and associated wildlife What I love about this setting is that it really feels epic like you the reader are participating in some grand heroic journey The most important thing here is the shifts in the desert environment Without Moores’ exploration of different possible desert specific settings it’s possible that the setting and the novel in general might have started to get a bit boring or repetitive But Moores undermines this legitimate possibility by always finding different ways to explore the environment and the terrifying desert creaturesSocialPolitical ConversationFor reference the main controllers of the world we’ve encountered are a small set of individuals known as the Kronik described as “the governing body of councillors and the honorific term used for the head ruler of Xannia” Our main character Dezmind is the heir this head ruler position but he has openly undermined his own people and his own government by insisting very publicly that Xannia has a different history than its residents have been led to believe speaking of Tablets and Chronicles that our main character Jutaya is hesitant to accept But as part of her professional duties she must follow Dezmind and a small group of his followers into the aforementioned Deserts on what she assumes will be a death sentence Side note Dezmind’s followers are referred to as the Spoken Truth which I just loveThroughout Time’s Tempest we see a lot of struggle from multiple viewpoints about the ethics of the Kronik Most interesting for me though is the internal struggle that Jutaya faces As a Contractor Jutaya has built her social identity as well as her career on essentially the good word of the Kronik Abandoned as a child and raised into a profession that is overseen largely by the Kronik Jutaya has never had reason to doubt them or their motives But the further she gets into the Deserts she becomes increasingly doubtful and unsure of where her loyalty should lie with Dezmind or with the Kronik Moores really captures this feeling of confusion and even isolation from one’s beliefs in a way that I found to be very effective So much of the novel is in Jutaya’s head so we the reader become saturated in her ideals and when her certainty starts to crumble ours follows suit As a result of this the pace actually changes pretty significantly by the end of the novel The Jutaya doubts the Kronik the the reader wants some kind of answer some kind of conclusion so we are forever hurtling toward some kind of truth

Enting the planet Xannia from environmental self destruction Here Fate and Destiny wage war propelling an epic search for truth amidst 2000 year old lies in opposition to a government bent on burying ancient secrets and anyone who goes looking for themAs Taya desperately. This was a good read Moores manages to put forth a truly alien world with a uniue culture that works without any hitches I was fooled a couple of times with apparent plot holes but the book was just messing with me An impressive exercise in world building and a good story to boot
