Past behind her so that she can move on with her life Seeing Dani Ricketts again throws her off guard nearly derailing her plans to finally rid herself and her family of Cypress Lake. I am surprised that this book has such strong reviews and I must uestion them This book has at best a solid plot which is consistently let down by clunky writing This manifests especially in the dialogue which freuently challenged my suspension of disbelief But frankly there are also spelling and grammatical errors problematic characters almost every cliché one might find in a poorly written book All present Let's back up Cypress Lake is the story of Chief Deputy Dani Ricketts and Kristen Malone; they have a History with a capital H Malone hopes to go home sell up and get out with the minimum of fuss but a dead body found floating in the lake in front of her house puts paid to that idea The story then follows Ricketts and Malone as they unravel that and other murders which follow on from the firstI really would like to give this book stars but that is impossible The murder mystery itself always sits on the edge of being alright let down by a plot twist at the end so obvious it left me shrugging with indifference The romance elements also hold promise in theory but nothing is executed well The writing is ham fisted The characters go from calm and normal to angry without lead in Conversations always feel like everyone is sharing too much information Information is repeated over and over within a bare few sentences A stronger editorial presence was reuired from the publisher or even just a check reader off the internet it is a shame this obviously wasn't brought to bearI cannot recommend this book

This was honestly one of the worst books possibly the worst book I've read this year And I went back and checked my list The plot could have been interesting but the characters were flat and the writing didn't flow at all There were so many typos and misused words one cannot furl a brow and character name changes Kirsten made several appearances for Kristen that it was almost funny The main character was to me a big cliche of a tough macho cop and I felt sort of dirty while reading some of the scenes that had her leering at women And I'm not a prudeThe big plot twist which wasn't too tough to figure out didn't even make it any better because of the poor writing There were other problems with a major plot point that would be a big spoiler so I'm not going to bother with that Suffice it to say that I was scratching my head with the massive inconsistencies I could go on but truly I just don't want to spend any time thinking about this book
