T is a story that seeks to balance activism and marine conservation with Japanese traditional culture and introduces the reader to an enigmatic and highly intelligent sea dweller the dolphin Beyond this a far deeper universal notion resonates the need for mankind to reconnect and re harmonise with the natural environment while addressing the pressing dual issues of conservation and sustainability before it is too late Weaving an intriguing tale of past and present author Len Varley tables a deeper understanding of the once deeply spiritual Japanese whaling tradition He o. Dolphins are clever animals They have the intelligence of a human child They even have the ability to communicate with others If a human trains a dolphin they can communicate with humans I thought that all humans were friends to dolphins but it turns out that some people are still being cruel The background of this book is Taiji where the people rely on fishing industry The fishing industry would have been better if they only caught fish They also hunt Dolphins The use of the dolphin is weird I don't have to mention about the auarium because everybody knows it The most famous food in Japan is sushi Actually some of the sushi are made by dolphin meat Dolphin meat is toxic and the fact that the people of Taiji enjoying it was shockingWhen I watched the documentary I saw oceans with blood The color of the sea was crimson This scene made me feel gloomy because I could almost feel the pain of the dolphins Len and his team had done a great operation He and his team showed the world what was going on in Japan I would recommend this book to people who want to know about the darkness of a civilization

When I first saw the book cover my sister was with me She asked “Aren’t tears literally salt water Why is the book name Salt Water Tears” I couldn’t say anything to that uestion partly because I was obsessed with the cover illustration as usual I was thinking ‘Wow The illustrator must really love red Or is this really all blood Yowza’ Blue is like the opposite color of red Seawater can be blue navy green turuoise and even gray but never red To have a red ocean you would need 1 lots of red paint 2 a really talented photo editor or 3 lots of blood I decided that it was 3 lots of blood So I figured that this book will have lots of description about blood I was hoping that I was wrong about the blood part but no such luck In this book the author describes whaling and the cetaceans’ captivity with vivid words There were parts about guns and harpoons et cetera I was so angry that I wanted to go to Taiji and sue all the whalers for animal abuse The Japanese fishermen say that whaling is their tradition They say that it’s their pride They should put their priorities straight What is important Lives ocean food chain and possibly the fate of earth or a bloodthirsty tradition Killing endangered species is one of the most unintelligent things that a human being can do So I say get rid of that sort of tradition Would you call sacrificing human beings a tradition to keep Dolphins and humans are both precious lives You should not call massacring lives tradition If the Japanese want to keep their tradition why can’t they do it in a swimming pool with fake dolphinsFurther nobody should eat dolphin meat either It has so much mercury than recommended Eating dolphin meat is like having a mercury sauce with it It’s like taking drugs except that most of the people who eat it doesn’t know what is wrong with it until they catch something bad like the minamata disease Why kill all the dolphins when you cannot even eat it It’s just savage There are no justifications for that The whalers have a final excuse for the barbaric behavior and it’s as ridiculous as the rest They say the whales are eating all the fish that they are supposed to catch Can you believe that Humans are no doubt number one consumers of fish In fact because of humans we are going to have no fish at this rate We the humans are the one who should leave fish for the wildlife and stop fishing do much I was okay with this book It showed Japan’s past and present that caused them to whale so much Although it displayed Koreans as barbarians in a certain part In modern history Japan was even barbaric Then they lost to a little boy and a fat man but that is another story I vowed to myself never to go watching a dolphin show in my life I recommend this book to people who are interested in environmental issues They should know about Taiji
